During my IEEE presidency (in 2023) I established the IEEE Climate Sustainability Program. This focus allowed IEEE to be visible in the global stage including the organization’s active participation in the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change in Egypt, United Arab Republic, Azerbaijan, Brazil and Türkiye from 2022 to 2026.
IEEE organized the IEEE-ITU Symposium on Achieving a Sustainable Climate jointly with the International Telecommunication Union in Geneva. Switzerland. The inaugural event was held in 2024 followed by a second one in 2025. I was the conference general chair.
I was the inaugural chair of the IEEE Technology for a Sustainable Climate Organization in 2025. This organization spearheaded setting up the program called IEEE Technology for a Sustainable Climate https://sustainable-climate.ieee.org/
I am the inaugural Editor-in-Chief of the IEEE Climate Magazine https://climatemagazine.ieee.org/
During my EEE Power & Energy Society presidency, I started the I Corporate Engagement Program. This program allows employers to pay dues of their employees and engage the organization more closely with IEEE, resulting in robust IEEE membership growth. During the two years of my PES presidency, PES industry membership in China grew by over 100%.
In order to provide a direct link between our chapter leaders – who are our foot soldiers at the local level – and the PES governing board, I set up PES Chapters’ Councils in China, India, Africa and Latin America with budget to support local programs. These councils are empowering local PES leaders to initiate local programs for member development and offer a platform for industry engagement.
I led the efforts to set up the online PES University. This “university” is a leader in the field of power engineering, providing access to knowledge and educational products that have credit-earning potential for PES members and non-members. This “university” offers tutorials, webinars, plain-talk courses – some online, some face-to-face – in the field of interest of PES.
I am the founding Editor-in-Chief of the IEEE Transactions on Sustainable Energy and the IEEE Electrification Magazine.
